Interaction Design
Dilemma's:
Providing sufficient information to communicate accountability to users (schedule, record of topics, time remaining, etc) vs Ease of Use
From the Speaker's Perspective
The speaker should have control over his own screen - including a handle/name, a topic/question/quote/message they want to discuss.
- The speaker should get to start the clock when they are ready
- The speaker should get to request EITHER before he begins speaking or during his allottment that he wants more than three minutes.
- The speaker should get to choose when/if to take calls during their allotted time (IDEAL)
From the Audience Perspective
The audience must understand the possibilities right away, and feel empowered to participate
- A Large Banner indicates the name of the event, possibly a brief slogan/explanation (ie talk to the crowd using your cellphone!)
- Volunteers walking the crowd will have tshirts on, as well as hand out handbills explaining the project, and asking people if they want to speak at the mic.
- screen communicates the vote outcome in realtime (with the last 4 digits of voters' cell phone)
- screen communicates the time remaining for each speaker (simple countdown clock)
- screen communicates the schedule of speakers & topics, showing open slots
