Status Update #1: Event Production

Alright, so here is a roundup of where the ASC implementation is at. Everything discussed here is tracked on the wiki.

Permit: have not heard back from the Parks Dept Ranger dude, left him two messages and one email. If I don’t hear from him by 2pm tomorrow I will try him again. In theory the permit has been granted, but I need to get a copy of it so that I can get authorization to park the truck onsite, as well as secure the sound permit from NYPD.

Generator: It looks like the prospects of getting a biodiesel generator in time for the event are dimming. Although a couple of people are sounding off in the appropriate channels, it looks like I may need to just rent a gas-powered generator. Hopefully I can work something out for future events.

Displays, Speakers, Mixer: I got the tentative OK from school to borrow a video projector and a 17″ LCD display. No large flat panels, which would have been ideal. This just means I will have to get creative for the screen setup, in order to cast enough of a shadow to render it visible. Hmm. Maybe I should look into where i could get a sufficiently large LED display? Or WAIT A MINUTE!!!! WHY NOT MAKE THE VOTE RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENTS VIA AN AUDIO INTERFACE??????? This would be in line with the goal of building an interface that is not *so* hardware dependent. This merits thought.

Podium: I have a rough idea in my head of the podium I want to build. It’ll be made out of 5/8″ plywood. I may set it up to hang a 17″ LCD panel on it, housing the countdown clock & vote prompt screens.
