"In a Nutshell"
This is a running scrapbook of the "in a nutshell" descriptions of this project. I'll keep updating this post over time as necessary.
Current:
An interface for public discussion in Union Square, NYC, consisting of a mic, speakers, and a website. The audience gets to vote in real time on who stays on the mic, as well as respond live over the speaker system using their cellphones. It's a live, face to face call-in radio show with a rotating host, determined by audience vote.
Until 4/15, 3:00pm:
A call-in radio show meets a public open mic set up in Union Square. Using their cellphones, the audience gets to vote realtime on who stays on the mic, as well as respond live to the speaker. Bonus: a website to discuss what to do with this interface before, during (?), and after the event.
Until 4/15, 4:00am:
Eroding the barriers between speaker and listener: a public installation where the audience can both vote on whether the speaker deserves more time on the mic, as well as respond live using their cellphone. The audio is posted online, where the immediacy and richness of the human voice can set the tone for civil, deliberative, and necessary dialog.
Until 4/12:
An exploration of the Public Sphere in an era of digital communications' networks.
Until 4/10
A Public Space + Networked Communications = ?
Site setup on 4/8/08
An interaction between a physical installation in Union Square and an accompanying website, meant to promote democratic dialog.
